Since Penny is off enjoying herself in the West End today I get to complete my own blog entry tonight! Today was a fantastic run, from Lancaster (nice city) to Windemere via lots of backroads (a bit hilly but very picturesque), and then on through the lakes to Grasmere, Thirlmere, Keswick and finishing at Bothel.
67 miles today and quite a few hills, but the Lakes more than compensates. This is one of my favourite areas anywhere. The weather continues to hold - quite grey, but no rain to speak of - long may it continue. I managed to resist the lure of the pencil museum at Keswick and pushed on to Bothel where John & Julie have given me a royal welcome and are looking after me in fine style.
I only managed to collect £4 today, I must be losing my touch! People continue to approach me and discuss the challenge and offer words of encouragement - this has been a recurring theme. There are lots of great people out there, many of whom are prepared to donate money to a complete stranger (I know - they don't come much stranger!) Fantastic.
The body is holding out, and I'm over halfway now, with the Scottish border tomorrow (but there's still a long way to go - 1 day at a time). Tomorrow is a big one - 94 miles which will be a toughie.
Thanks to so many of you who have been reading the blog, posting comments and sending me texts - keep them coming, they really do help. I'll post some pics when I'm able.

Don't mind the fact that I have been to London to take Jake alone on his birthday treat..and am now home and ready to blog, but I've been gazumped. One evening off in 2 weeks...(By the way Spamalot was fab, highly recommended). Ended with rousing sing-a-long of "Always Look on the Bright side"...possibly a leitmotif for the ride! (or just my life...). P (chief blogger/ night off)
Fantastic!! Well done on getting half way. You truly deserve a soft drink in the pub (may be down hill but surely that's one way?). Take inspiration from Mark Beaumont and keep pushing.
Love from Ros, David, Matthew and Corinne X
Well done Richard. Keep going. Over half way now. So I guess that makes your glass half full now.
Actually I feel quite knackered just reading your blog.
Take care.

I enjoyed hearing about your trip through the Lake District -- I wish I was there with you (grey skies or clear). I guess that you are pedaling through Scotland now -- it must be very satisfying to ponder the miles already done, the memories accumulated, and the fact that you are well over half way to your goal. Keep up the good work.
R left here this morning in good spirits ready for his mammoth day heading off into Scotland.
As we watched him pedal off waving it felt quite bizarre thinking just how far R & that bike has really travelled, and now he's well into the homeward straight.
Good on you Richard - we REALLY are so very proud of you & what you are doing, and it was lovely to see you. We are glad you came to our house on route, even if it added a few miles onto the entire journey - so thankyou for that! I suppose you doing that means I can now call myself an "end to end landlady"!
We are hugely looking forward to hearing tonights blog & hope all has gone well on our "leg".
Continuing pedaling with care. x
Well done Richard - over half way and lots left in the tank by the sounds of it.
Scenery will be fantastic through Scotland - we hope the rain stays away and you can really enjoy it.
Don't forget to get the Kilt on and frighten the Scottish sheep!

P.S. We know what you mean about Preston - Rachel shares your thoughts on the place.
